Should or shouldn’t I jailbreak my iDevice?

Jailbreaking is, above all, a matter of taste.

If you find yourself constrained by the lack of some features (like true multitasking, access to the filesystem, etc) you might want to jailbreak your device.

Also if you want to use your iDevice on non-approved carriers you need to jailbreak and unlock your iDevice.

Why should I jailbreak?

  • have full control on your iDevice
  • have access to some features that Apple officially disabled
  • be able to install unsigned (pirated) software on my iDevice

Why shouldn’t I jailbreak?

  • you might find yourself with a bricked device, because of a single click
  • you might loose your warranty
  • your device can be hacked/exploited by unsigned (pirated) software
  • your device can break by installing untested or broken applications

Conclusion: if you think that you can handle all the risks and you have at lease decent knowledges regarding the Internet and how things work, you can jailbreak. If you just got the device from the Store and you only know how to press the Call, Accept or Reject button…you shouldn’t jailbreak as in most of cases you will brick your device.
